Unlike his neighbor to the southWhen it comes to home sales, Westchester County had a really good year in 2020.
A total of 6,635 purchases were completed in the suburbs of New York in 2020, the highest record in 1996, Bloomberg News said, citing a report by Houlihan Lawrence.
The year was Westchester County: Previous years have shown waning demand and household surpluses. But the pandemic has driven residents out of New York City – and in the suburbs – in search of more space and equipment.
“Everything sells,” said Debbie Doern, Houlihan Lawrence’s senior vice president of sales. “It’s not easy to get a house right now.”
The median home price rose 20 percent in the fourth quarter from $ 738,250 a year earlier, according to a report by Douglas Elliman compiled by appraiser Miller Samuel. The increase was the largest annual jump since the end of 2002.
Low stocks are to blame for rising prices. The number of homes for sale fell 29 percent at the end of December from 1,299 homes, the least recorded since 1994, according to an Elliman report.
“Buyers are ready and ready,” said Bloomberg, president of brokerage firm Scott Durkin. “They have funding in hand, deposits, are more tolerant of home inspections and are ready to pounce.”
